31 Aug 2010Go and check out pemorama!’s Flickr stream – amazing use of digital layering, stamping etc. Very talented!
Hi all,
Thought I’d add a quick review of a new toy I was very lucky to receive recently. The Canon Selphy printer is a teeny weeny little thing, designed to quickly print off high quality 6×4″ prints.
My wonderful husband gave me mine as a gift, and I must admit at first I was dubious about what I’d use it for. His description was that I could use it for anything I might otherwise take Polaroids of. This was not a subtle message, he pretty much just doesn’t want me to keep buying ridiculously expensive Polaroid film! But he’s right. I can just take my card out my camera, and quickly print off an image. If you get a battery pack for these, they’re even portable, so they really are Polaroid-esque in that way. The printer itself is compact, very light, and pretty straightforward to use.
Anyway, it can spit out a nice quality 6×4 in less than a minute, dry. They look a huge amount better than what I’ve ever seen from other ‘home’ printers on photo paper. The colour is nice and vibrant. Between the software that comes along with it, and the cool paper options you can (like postcards) there’s actually a heap of useful stuff you could do with this.
Apart from just for printing photos, I’m using mine for making postcard thankyous, printing photos and mini-layouts for 6×4 mini-albums, and (new idea as of last night) making some 6×4 index-card style recipes (with accompanying food photos of course!). It would also be a great way to print a couple of images to give to friends and family when you’re going through photos you’ve taken.
They’re not super cheap (around $200US+ on Amazon), but definitely a useful tool – even more so if you’re a photographer.

19 Aug 2010Love this kind of creativity. Colour, pattern, texture, layers, design. Amazing.
Y’know that funky trick with the shapes and the photos?

Todays inspiration is brought to you courtesy of designs by two of my favorite lovely ladies – Liz of Paislee Press and Peppermint, a.k.a One Little Bird Designs.
Both of these gorgeous layouts are by Crystabella.
If you’re someone who struggles to come up with just the right design, you should definitely consider turning to the web for help. There are amazing sites and pieces all over the web, designed by fabulously talented designers and artists. Here’s an example – a piece I spotted on Flickr of a website design/layout. Perfect – room for four photos, a journal block, a paper or slightly transparent photo in the background, a title and a couple of elements.

Here’s a few other sites that I think would make amazing layouts once you translate them:

I might even make a template or two at some stage!

2 Aug 2010I just found this fab blog today. Tonya Doughty is a photographer, scrapbooker, and amazing designer, by the looks of things.
I love some of her design pieces, like this:
But even more than that, I love this – it’s a concept I’ve thought about myself for ages now, but I’ve never seen anyone else do with quite so much awesomeness! Her ‘Remember This’ series features some awesome photos, with some great design and some wonderful messages that she wants to give to her daughters. I absolutely love it! You can check out more of them here.
Don’t forget to check out the the color me pretty posts when they come up on Decor8. They’re gorgeous
