Do what you do do well

One of the coolest things about photography is that it’s an almost limitless art.  Of course, when I think of photographers (especially professionals), I still can’t help but mentally categorise them at least to Landscapes, Weddings, Fashion, and Portrait.  I know there are loads of other areas, but for whatever reason, that’s just what comes to mind.

The other thing I found, as I started to learn more about photography myself, is that what to take photos of can be a very daunting part about learning.  For me, I felt a little out of the loop because I don’t have kids.  A lot of the great photography resources, especially in the scrapbooking community, center on child photography.  Now, when I write about photography, I must admit I do focus almost solely on ‘people’ shooting – because that’s what I know and love.  It doesn’t need to be kids, brides or couples, just people.  But if that’s either uninteresting to you, or a bit scary, fear not.  Go out and look for people who shoot the same thing you do.  They’ll be there.  You can enjoy the fruits of your camera-toting labours no matter what your chosen subject.  You can create absolutely stunning images, of almost anything.  Like I said, that’s the great thing about photography.

Recently I discovered an amazing photographer who makes my point perfectly.  Proud puppy mama though I am, and though I take more than my fair share of furry footed pictures, I would never have thought about pet photography in the way that photographer Bev Hollis does it.

Please, please do yourself a favor and go take a look at her jaw-dropping work.  Whatever it is that you choose to shoot – you can follow her lead and EXCEL at doing it.  You can make fine art out of wagging tails and slobbery mouths.  Enjoy your photos :)
