Thought I’d add a quick review of a new toy I was very lucky to receive recently.  The Canon Selphy printer is a teeny weeny little thing, designed to quickly print off high quality 6×4″ prints.

My wonderful husband gave me mine as a gift, and I must admit at first I was dubious about what I’d use it for.  His description was that I could use it for anything I might otherwise take Polaroids of.  This was not a subtle message, he pretty much just doesn’t want me to keep buying ridiculously expensive Polaroid film!  But he’s right.  I can just take my card out my camera, and quickly print off an image.  If you get a battery pack for these, they’re even portable, so they really are Polaroid-esque in that way.  The printer itself is compact, very light, and pretty straightforward to use.

Anyway, it can spit out a nice quality 6×4 in less than a minute, dry.  They look a huge amount better than what I’ve ever seen from other ‘home’ printers on photo paper.  The colour is nice and vibrant.  Between the software that comes along with it, and the cool paper options you can (like postcards) there’s actually a heap of useful stuff you could do with this.

Apart from just for printing photos, I’m using mine for making postcard thankyous, printing photos and mini-layouts for 6×4 mini-albums, and (new idea as of last night) making some 6×4 index-card style  recipes (with accompanying food photos of course!).  It would also be a great way to print a couple of images to give to friends and family when you’re going through photos you’ve taken.

They’re not super cheap (around $200US+ on Amazon), but definitely a useful tool – even more so if you’re a photographer.
